  1. 1. Describe the critical approach by Mosco (hint, page 61)
The critical approach states that technology moves to fast.
    2. Describe the "crossroads" of technology and capitalism: Isolating the 1%. The crossroads is class identification
    3. Do you feel there are political implications "of information technology" (and why)? Absolutely The level of involvement would be determinant of Who or What is being advocating for.
    4. What is meant by a "mega machine" All knowing
    5. How is theory different from reality as noted by Hassan? Reality is action and a theory expected actions, but not reality.
6.Describe the concept ideology made flesh.

    INFORMATION TAKES OVER
Mark Z- with face book or Steve Jobs with Apple are ideologies made flesh.
    7. How did Al Gore promote the dream? Did he really start the internet?
(hint GII)He was a pioneer, he attended the GII in hopes of bring the internet awareness be known.
8.What is a change agent? Making a Bold Statement to be acknowledged.

12.Describe structural schizophrenia (hint, 98)? We don’t know how to proceed in certain situation. We get lost in what is abstract and what is real.
13.What is meant by computerize or die? Go digital or die
14.Describe how the internet has become commodities. Yes the internet solicits and buys and sells good and non tangible items.
15.How do information dreams stack up against nightmares? The dreams was to create jobs, yet the nightmare is that we lost jobs. The dream was to share information for others to learn and thrive and the nightmare is that others have abused it and hurt others with the information.

  2. 1. The critical approach is the speed of which something becomes available on the internet – often it is not quite ready either within the actual product or the market is not ready for the product.
    2. When we have to use the 1% of the population that are able to get the capital to gain access to technology.
    3. Political implications of information technology run far and wide. One thing we discussed was surveillance and the ability to track individuals. This does have serious response in China and I assume it will eventually in America as well.
    4. Mega machine is the ability of the computer to run anything and everything.
    5. Theory is different from reality is like wanting to live the American dream but realizing you aren’t what the ideological family looks like.
    6. The concept of ideology made flesh is defined as symbols that the normal person should hope to become.
    7. Al Gore attended the seminars and pushed for the internet to become a household thing but in my opinion, he didn’t create it so he shouldn’t be credited for it.
    8. A change agent is bold and innovative and often resisted in the original market.
    9. Governmental grants are money that is given or gifted to someone without the need to repay. But the drawback is that it takes a very long time for someone to write a proposal for a grant. Corporate capital needs to be repaid and often has a large interest rate attached to the loan period.
    10. The power of selling often provides positive feedback and helps strengthen the product as it grows in popularity.
    11. Like we discussed – your neighbor came to America to live the dream but didn’t factor in the possibility of losing his daughter to the Westernized world.
    12. Structural schizophrenia is where the product can have side effects that were previously unknown with negative outcomes.
    13. Computerize or die is something that libraries struggle with. In order to maintain collections libraries are trying to keep up with technology and its advances. If the library does not continue to evolve with the technological society it will eventually die out.
    14. Our example last night was about Facebook games – people buy the fake money in order to play a game but there is no actual tangible product.
    15. The internet makes products available to almost anyone but it also eliminates jobs like librarians or teachers (online schools). The hope was that the internet would be a way to share information but it has turned into a nightmare to control and manage (hackers, gambiling, violence, threats…)
    16. Loneliness and the internet – we discussed gamers and their ability to be alone but also be playing games with other people in different states and countries.

  3. 1. A social, political, economic and technological revolution that was both unstoppable and desirable. It’s the speed that something is available on the internet.
    2. The crossroads is when someone starts making money off the internet. The author feels this crossroads has more of a society worried about “class”. The 1% who makes money off the internet is upper class. The internet has put others in the poor house.
    3. Yes there is, even though there is the 4th amendment and the right to privacy the government is still able to search almost everything we do online.
    4. The computer is the “it” thing now. It does everything and is everything. We are always connected to a computer. Even if you don’t have technology everyone around you does so there is pressure to get connected. We are addicted to the net and digital tech.
    5. You might meet someone on Facebook then when you meet in person they aren’t as great in reality as they were in theory (their profile). There is a theory that the internet has made us work less but in reality we are working more.
    6. Taking certain people we can relate to when it comes to technology such as Steve Jobs(Apple) or Mark Zuckerberg(Facebook). These are the people who made these things possible.
    7. He was a booster for the internet. He promoted internet as, “It’s made for you.”
    8. Someone who does something bold to promote change such as Tankman.
    9. Corpriate capital you have to pay back but it’s fast money. Government grants are free money you don’t have to pay them back but they can take a long time to get.
    10. They sell it and we consume it.
    11. Information technology brings on a disaster and a bad consequence.
    12. The product can have negative side effects that we didn’t know about before. Internet is used to spread hate.
    13. Companies HAVE to go digital or they will go under. They must get with the times(technology) to succeed.
    14. Products on the internet aren’t tangible but we pay for them anyways. Such as apps or buying things on Farmville.
    15. Internet is supposed to solve all the problems and help the economy but since the internet unemployment rates have gone up. The computer is taking place for the jobs men used to do.
    16. People will be alone in their rooms on the internet playing games but feel like they aren’t alone because they are on a game that is connected to a bunch of different players or users but in reality they are still alone.

  4. 1. The critical approach suggests that sometimes communication technology allows us to do things we aren’t ready for. It is the speed at which information becomes available.

    2. The crossroads of technology and capitalism is where we make money.

    3. Yes, there are political implications. For example, with tracking and surveillance Verizon wants to sell our tracking information and if the highest bidder is the government, for whatever reason, the process becomes politically compromised.

    4. The mega machine is the machine that is in charge of encompassing everything, it is the idea that it becomes too large and we can’t escape it.

    5. This is basically when we see something on the internet and take it for truth when in reality it is different. Our understanding for the truth can become blurred by the internet. My friend once met a girl on the internet but in reality she wasn’t the same person - she looked a lot different.

    6. This is when someone, such as Steve Jobs, has a vision and a mission and they play it out in real life. They are symbols of positions we should all aspire too.

    INFORMATION TAKES OVER

    7. Al Gore boostered, supported and promoted the Internet but he didn’t create it. If Al Gore invented the internet then he also invented Global Warming.

    8. You have to do something that makes change. This is typically thinking outside the box.

    9. Corporate capital has to be paid back or they own part of your business but you can get the money fairly quickly. Government grants take a long time to get due to red tape, people scrutinize us for using tax payer money, but you don’t have to pay it back.

    10. The power of selling derives from being “part of the system” in which people promote. As the book notes, “Their interaction follows a positive feedback loop where the idea of the information society is carried by information technologies themselves, validating the message, and strengthening it as it spreads.”

    11. This is when we think what we have is great and then it backfires on us through unseen events. Example, I got a computer and thought it was great because I could look up all kinds of stuff. Then I got a job on the internet and it consumes every minute of my life.

    12. Structural schizophrenia is a split between reality and virtual world on the net. Individuals become different in their thoughts and actions in real world and on the Net. In this structural schizophrenia messages can be turned on and off and changed based on what they want people to see. It is a breakdown of thought processes through the Internet.

    13. If you don’t join the computer and Internet revolution your company will be swallowed up and won’t be able to compete.

    14. The internet is virtual and people have found ways to create something (the commodity) out of nothing (the virtual world) and sell it. People are selling points for money so you can build virtual cities or by virtual items for video games.

    15. For everything good there is something bad. For everything good the internet was created for there has also been abuse of it. It runs in a checks and balances way, for example, we have people that make great programs to solve problems and we also have people that make programs to destroy them (viruses). We take one step forward and two back. The internet is yet one more progression in our society just as automobiles, trains, airlines, credit cards were. The fact is that people will continually use information and technology to make money.

    16. If individuals continuously find happiness within the confines of the internet they will forfeit human interaction and become lonely thus unfulfilling their need for love, such as in Maslow’s Needs Hierarchy Theory. We need human interaction.

  5. 1. The critical approach is the concept that things can happen very quickly but that we need to be cautious because the market will allow us to do things that are not legal or perhaps we are not yet ready for it. It is about choosing carefully.

    2. The crossroads is MAKING MONEY! As a society, we have created a hierarchy of people who are making all the money, mostly through the internet.

    3. Yes; Intelligence and survey technology. The government does want to participate in these activities.

    4. "Mega Machine" refers to the computer and how it can do almost everything! It's always being connected to a computer, the "Mega Machine!" Mega Machine=addiction

    5. Things are different on-line than in reality. It's like meeting someone through Christian mingle and then you meet them and they are so completely different than what you saw or what you thought you saw.

    6. Ideology made flesh is when we see real people become what they dreamed they would be. People like Steve Jobs is a symbolwe can aspire to.

    7. Al Gore attended the meetings and helped to boost the internet, but he did not start the internet.

    8. A change agent is the concept that you have to do something bold to get ahead. People are skeptical of it because it is controversial.

    9. Government grants can slow down the process. We tend to want to move quickly and private grants are much quicker.

    10. It's all about "being part of the system." You have to be part of the the game and system. Those in the system follow a positive feedback loop where the idea of the information society is carried by information technologies themselves, validating the message, and strengthening it as it spreads.

    11. This is when we think think we have an awesome idea and then it turns into a disaster! But...if you don't try the change agent, you'll never know if that millionaire idea could turn reality!

    12. In order to live in a free society, we must take the good with the bad. Structural schizophrenia is when we become entranced in the virtual aspect of the web.

    13. A company must be digital or else they will essentially die and go out of business. Our lives revolve around the internet and computers.

    14. This is when people buy things through the internet. Commoditities are a mass development that has grown. For example, my sons are always begging me to buy gold coins for a game they play on my phone.

    15. The nightmare issue is because jobs have been eliminated because of what the internet has to offer now. We took s1 step forward and 2 steps back!

    16. People who are lonely may find happiness and companionship through the internet. X-box live is a good example for this. People are able to talk live through their x-box and interact as if the people they are talking to are beside them.

  6. 1. Making the correct choice, just because the information is there and we can use it does not mean that we should use it.

    2. The crossroads are where you start to make money.

    3. Yes, big brother is always watching.

    4. It is the machine that most people cannot do with out. If my daughter did not have the internet she would be lost in her everyday life, as seen when we go camping.

    5. It is like a magic trick, you think it is real because you can’t see how it is done. The theory is that it is good for you, the reality is that is not the best thing for you but you can’t see why?

    6. This is done in marketing, and a good example is the Allstate commercials. When I think of Allstate, I think of the guy in the commercials always commentating.

    INFORMATION TAKES OVER

    7. He was like the traveling salesman for the internet, but I don’t believe he created it.

    8. Something controversial and bold, that helps you get ahead. You see news media trying this all of the time, but it doesn’t always work.

    9. Government grants are like free money when you get through all of the paperwork, and corporate capital is never free and must be paid back in one form or another.

    10. It is being part of the technology system, and finding ways to incorporate it into everyday life. The example from the book is the MIT labs trying to make clothes that work with the digital media.

    11. When someone comes up with a game changing technology to be used for good, and it turns out it is easier to use it for bad.

    12. When you are afraid of everything, technology based. When you think everything is steeling from you or trying to get you.

    13. If you don’t adapt to today changing society, and have a way to promote and operate your business electronically you will not succeed.

    14. Everyone wants you to shop from home, pays bills from home, basically never leave your house. Chomsky talks about turning us into the type of people they want us to be.

    15. The information dream, is not always a good thing. I think a good example of this would be some blogs that people start but don’t know how to control. When you get an unruly person on there, they don’t know how to block or defuse them.

    16. You never have to leave your domain, and everything is done on the internet. You think that video chatting is a way of social interaction.

    6. Describe the concept ideology made flesh. Those who make something unimaginable into something real.

    INFORMATION TAKES OVER

    7. How did Al Gore promote the dream? Did he really start the internet?
(hint GII) Al Gore was a booster for the internet not a creator.

    8. What is a change agent? A catalyst for change also can be looked at as broken dreams of many people since so few are change agents.

    9. How is corporate capital different from government grants? Government grants you get without paying back, corporate is paying back the grant usually with a large interest rate.

    10. What is the power of selling as noted on page 91? Derives from being aprt of the game you are promoting.

    11. Page 92, what is meant by "when the dream turns into a nightmare"? Great idea, then turns into a disaster.

    12. Describe structural schizophrenia (hint, 98)? No rhyme or reason to who does it.

    13. What is meant by computerize or die? Go digital or your dead in the water. Stay up with the times.

    14. Describe how the internet has become commodified (103). Mass development of a complete new system. Buy, sell and trade.

    15. How do information dreams stack up against nightmares? Globalization to solve anything, but yet, it is causing most issues. One step forward and two steps back.

    16. Describe loneliness and the internet? Your life absolutely sucks so you get online and your life still absolutely sucks. Talk about lonely.

  8. 1. Mosco describes the critical approach by simply stating how fast technology moves and how people can get their opinions out there on the web via Twitter, Facebook, or other means.

    2. The "crossroads" of technology and capitalism refers to the 99% trying to become a part of the 1%

    3. There are very much political implications of "information technology" especially in the countries that have their citizens under constant surveillance. China's Tienanmen Square is a perfect example of this.

    4. The internet is the "mega machine" and it has a hold of all of us and our everyday lives. I am answering this question via the "mega machine" right now.

    5. The internet makes all of us feel special in many ways but this is merely an illusion. The internet replaces reality with that illusion.

    6. Ideology made flesh is the aspiration of becoming like those who have accomplished their goals and dreams. People like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

    7. Al Gore wants to take credit for inventing the internet but was merely just a proponent of it. He was a spokesman for the internet.

    8. A change agent represents taking bold chances to get ahead but it is not the norm.

    9. Grants are free money that don't have to be paid back and corporate capital is a loan that has to be paid back with interest and the corporations often want a piece of the pie.

    10. The power of selling is being part of the game or the machine known as the technology system and how it promotes to the American public.

    11. When someone comes up with an idea that they believe is for the better but ends up being something that does more harm than good.

    12. The best example of structural schizophrenia is when people get online and become someone they are not. An example of this is when we pretend to act or behave in a manner in which we would not normally behave. We are hiding behind the internet and feel safe.

    13. Computerize or die means that companies must stay up with today's technology due to the amount of competition out there.

    14. You can do almost anything on the internet; buy, sell, trade, find a wife.

    15. People often abuse the internet for example; those who use it for evil and to get a negative message out there. It is virtually impossible to prevent. It can only be monitored and or ignored.

    16. Loneliness on the internet is when people think they have friends online and in reality they don't. They think that because they have so many friends on Facebook they have friends in real life.

    1. Things can happen quickly in the technological market. However we shouldn't jump the gun because your business practice may be illegal.
    2. the crossroads is making money. There is a heir achy of people who know how to work the technology that are on the top.
    3. The government wants to participate in the internet and companies for purposes such as getting information on citizens.
    4. The internet acts as the mega machine with everyone trying to get control of it.
    5. Perceptions of advertisement online can be very different when you see it in real life. You can feel like you get ripped off.
    6. Taking an idea and making it happen via the internet. Rags to riches such as the Facebook creator and Google creators. You can become so obsessed with your internet company that you miss out on other things.
    7. He may have been involved in the process of the internet but he is not the creator.
    8. You have to do something that is meaningful to change things. Those who are trying to do something different often get torn down. Many times it is controversial.
    9. government grants you don't have to pay back. Government grants can slow down process. Free Markets can progress quickly. There can be long processes with Government grants.
    10. You must be a part of the game and how you promote.
    11. You can have what you think is a really good idea that you think will be successful but when you try to carry it into action it turns into a nightmare.

  10. 1. Technology is unstoppable and desirable. Market and technology needs to be fair and just.

    2. The crossroads of technology and capitalism is that it has become more of a class based society. We have created a hierarchy of people that understand how to use technology to make capital while the rest do not. We like to think technology has given us access but it has put us in the poor house.

    3. Yes because they track what you are doing using surveillance and intelligence. Governments want to be involved in measuring and controlling processes. I believe that it makes the government feel as if they have more power.

    4. A “mega machine” is the computer and the Internet. It deals with the fact that the computer is the “it” thing now. It does everything and is everything for us technologically. It is almost as if we are not in control anymore…technology is.

    5. The person is constantly surprised and it is a process of social interaction. For example, when we find a shirt online that we love and then when we get it in person it is horrid! The shirt being in person is reality, the internet is the theory.

    6. This is the idea of groups of individuals and setting them up as an image we want to present and aspire to become. Taking certain people we can relate to and understand and putting them in the digital world. For example, Mark Zuckerberg making Facebook. This is working more and spending more time online versus before when you had time with family. Before you were wired and on the go all the time.

    INFORMATION TAKES OVER

    7. Al Gore believed that it was “for you”. He attended meetings and was in favor of the internet. No, he did not start it – only supported it.

    1. The critical approach is useful in that context of a social, political, economic, and technological revolution; sometimes we do things because we want to.

    2. The crossroads would be making money, using technology to produce money, or capital.

    3. Yes, because of the compariaties between intelligence and survaillence, mainly by the government.

    4. The "mega machine" is the computer; it does everything these days, and we're always connected to one, usually by the internet.

    5. Theory is "in the eye of the beholder" so to speak, where as reality is how things actually are.

    6. This concept is that real people are the creators of certain digital creations that are easily recognizable by the general public, ie. Steve Jobs

    7. Al Gore sold, or promoted the internet idea to the public as something 'For You', which boosted the internet popularity. He did not invent it himself.

    8. A change agent is introducing a new product into the service area that leaves people skeptical until they try and adapt to it.

    9. Coporate capital must be paid back to the government, where as grants do not have to be paid back.

    10. The power of selling is making one's self a part of the system through marketing and promotion.

    11. When someone's great idea falters or turns out to not be as capital-producing as was originally thought.

    12. This is the thought of two or more perceptions on one's self in the virtual world and in reality. It has negative outcomes in the shape of intolerant fundamentalist religions or neo-fascist organizations.

    13. This means that if your company does not go "digital" then they become "dead in the water" so to speak and are left behind by the rest of the world and will crumple because of that.

    14. People via the internet now are buying, selling, and trading non-tangiable goods, paying real money for upgrades on video games, amongst other upsurd products.

    15. The dream was to produce more jobs and to be able to spread information about virtually anything to everyone. The nightmare is that we've lost jobs, and the information one can gathered via the internet has been used to harm and hurt people, both physically, emotionally, and mentally.

    16. The internet distances you from getting out and interacting with people out in the public.

  12. 1.Describe the critical approach by Mosco (hint, page 61).
This approach is suggesting the idea that things are happening very rapidly via technology and while that is a good thing, the downfall is that because it can be done so quickly it is easy to bypass laws and regulations and do something we aren’t ready for.
    2. Describe the "crossroads" of technology and capitalism.
The “crossroads” of technology and capitalism lie in a need for money. There is a hierarchy of the few, around 1% that know how to use this new technology to make money and the other 99% are trying to figure out how to use it or compete with it.
    3. Do you feel there are political implications "of information technology" (and why)?
Yes, there are definitely political implications of “information technology” seen around the world. The government uses the Internet to gather information on its citizens. The video on Tiananmen Square showed us exactly that. It shows you who has power.
    4. What is meant by a "mega machine" (page 66)?
The “mega machine” is our computer and its access to the Internet. Most of how we work and how we socialize is done though the Internet through shopping, chatting, tweeting etc. Technology controls a lot of what we do on a daily basis.
    5. How is theory different from reality as noted by Hassan?
Theory is different from reality when it comes to technology. Because the Internet is so prominent in our lives today, it’s easy to blur reality with truth. Someone might be really interesting through emails or through Facebook but act completely different in reality. Things are not always what they seem behind the computer screen.
    6. Describe the concept ideology made flesh.
Ideology made flesh. We are always on the move, whether it be working or spending more time online. We are wired and on the go all the time. Some people took their ideologies and made them flesh. Mark Zuckerberg for example.

    7. How did Al Gore promote the dream? Did he really start the internet?
    (hint GII)
Al Gore was a booster for the internet, not the creator. He did an amazing job doing so but I don’t believe he should be accredited for it.

    10. What is the power of selling as noted on page 91?
The power of selling is being part of a system that is promoted. “Their interaction follows a positive feedback loop where the idea of the information society is carried by information technologies themselves, validating the message, and strengthening it as it spreads.”
    11. Page 92, what is meant by "when the dream turns into a nightmare"?
You can have what you think is a really great idea that you believe will do good things but it ends up being something harmful, hence ‘nightmare.’
    12. Describe structural schizophrenia (hint, 98)?
Structural schizophrenia is a mix of reality and technology and the world of the Internet. A product could have side affects that were not known before.
    13. What is meant by computerize or die?
In this day and age, computers hold so much for us. Most of what we do on a daily basis is through Internet. If companies are not digital, they don’t stand a chance against everyone else. Technology is inevitable.
    14. Describe how the internet has become commodified (103).
The Internet has become commodified because we are buying things that we cannot even hold. For example, we are paying for apps on our iPhones. We are paying for mp3 songs to load onto our iPod.
    15. How do information dreams stack up against nightmares?
The information dreams were big and were thought to add so many jobs and solve all of our problems but in reality the unemployment rate went up drastically because jobs that once needed to be done personally can now be done electronically.
    16. Describe loneliness and the internet?
People do not feel lonely when on the Internet. For example, you might be alone in your room playing a computer game but you could be playing against 15 other people. Or Facebook, you can’t see them but your friends are there.

    16. Describe loneliness and the internet?

The internet provides a resource to connect to people all across the globe in many different ways. But in the end, you are still sitting at a computer, staring at a screen, alone.

  18. 1. Informational capitalism. Things can happen by taking it to market very quickly but we need to be careful because the market can let us do things that might not be legal. We have to go in slow to watch ourselves.

    2. Technoloy and capitalism cross at making money. There is a need for money and a need for technology. If you have the technology you have the power and the money.

    3. Yes, intelligence capacities. If you have the knowledge you have the power. The government would want to use these for benefits to their campaign and to get the knowledge of what the people want and how to win the election.

    4. The mega machine is the computer that does, sees, knows everything. Our generation is glued and people live their lives around it.

5.Theory is different from reality because in theory everything seems too good to be true but in reality it could be the total opposite. You could see an amazing ad on the internet and you order it and it is a hunk of junk. It's all an illusion.

9.Corporate capital is different from govt. grants because cc has higher interest and you have to pay them back unlike grants which you do not have to pay back. It also deals with your credit score. Corporate is faster yet more expensive but grants takes forever to process and get.

    10. The power of selling is being apart of the system. if you feel you have some importance to the product and its all about you then you can be sold.

    11. When dreams turn into nightmares means the dream of equal freedom and opportunity goes away with modern technology and those that have the power and knowledge will always be better off than those who don't. There will once again be inequality.

  20. 1. Describe the critical approach by Mosco (hint, page 61).
Technology advancement has made information pass along so quickly that we often times are not ready to deal with such new things/concepts.

    2. Describe the "crossroads" of technology and capitalism.
The crossroads suggests that technology has created more of a class system or gap between poor and wealthy because it’s easier to make money when you already have a lot of it to begin with.

    3. Do you feel there are political implications "of information technology" (and why)?
Sure. One can suggest that “big brother” is watching over us because technology is so abundant therefore easier to track people’s actions.

    4. What is meant by a "mega machine" (page 66)?
The mega machine is suggested to be the internet, all the information you put out there can be accessed even if we have laws to block things it can still be obtained.

    5. How is theory different from reality as noted by Hassan?
The internet is a great veil, it’s somewhat easy to make people believe something when the reality is actually quite different in real life. It’s the whole argument of “we’re controlled by the media” thing.

    6. Describe the concept ideology made flesh.

Someone like Tank man, putting yourself out there and get people’s attention.

    9. How is corporate capital different from government grants?
Yes, grants you don’t have to pay back but take time to obtain. Corporate capital is an investment that they want to see a return on (payback).
    10. What is the power of selling as noted on page 91?
Being a part of the information society and using it to your advantage.

    11. Page 92, what is meant by "when the dream turns into a nightmare"?
Possibly negative impacts that we may not expect from a new innovation.

    12. Describe structural schizophrenia (hint, 98)?
When your thought process is skewed when dealing with real vs the cyber space of the internet.

    13. What is meant by computerize or die?
You can’t compete in the business world without having at least some form of digital part.

    14. Describe how the internet has become commodified (103).
There’s advertisements everywhere for one. But it’s basically when you buy something for use on the internet itself. Like you pay to use a game or something that without the internet wouldn’t be of any use at all. Buying tangible items off of websites also has to do with it.

    15. How do information dreams stack up against nightmares?
Well the internet provides us the ability to exchange information at an extraordinary rate and helps commerce a lot but the internet also has cut a ton of jobs because they simply were snuffed out of existence because the internet does a better job.

    16. Describe loneliness and the internet?
The internet allows lonely people to engage with others but also at the same time it’s not enough because they’re not actually physically with other people therefore it brings them back to being lonely again unfortunately. Or you don't want to engage with the people around you so you escape to the internet where you have a false image of yourself portrayed to others.

1.The critical approach by Mosco states that we must think critacally and go beyond “flying by the seat of your pants”. Thinking critically will allow an analysis and closer look at certain things than just accepting things without critacally thinking.
2.The crossroads of technology and capitalism is where technology meets capitalism and things are being able to be accessible at a much faster and convenient way and being able to make money from doing so. Things such as making money off of making payments online will charge a convenience fee or things such as paying for apps for phones.

In the example of these two individuals they were two entrepreneurs that were on top of the demands of informational technologies and were able to create useful softwares and devices that were very convenient and quite genius that appealed to the public. The took the want of having things faster and easier to the next level and made their ideologies flesh.
8.Al Gore promoted the dream by advocating for the use of internet and networks with the NII and spreading the word world wide with the GII followed by the ITU and settin out to inform people about the use of the information technology and how it would be good for the people. He was definitely a strong advocater for the internet. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say he started the internet. But it just depends what is meant here by “started the internet”. 24. 1) Mosco evaluates the information age as a capitalist movement that has turned information into a commodity, without buying into the “sloganeering” that is used to try to sell the “pushbutton fantasies” of the computerized society. He looks at the political and capitalistic socio-economic structures that have created the digital divide, instead of just going along with the popular view that all computer progress is good, even if it leaves the poor awash in the wake.
    2) The crossroads of technology and capitalism is where the capitalists (the people with them capital to invest) are making money on the commoditization of information.
    3) Yes, there are political implications to how information technology is used. 1) There are political campaigns that have used the social networking and the internet to inform and motivate groups of people to become involved in local and national politics. 2) There are groups that have used internet rumors, whether substantiated or not, to cast doubt about a candidate’s credentials and leadership abilities. 3) There are many ways that the government can use technology to track and monitor activities of citizens. 4) The line between the corporate and government worlds has gotten thinner and almost indistinguishable. To say that corporations such as Google and Cisco don’t have control over what information the people get seems rather naïve, especially considering what we have been talking about in class concerning “Tank Man”.
    4) The “Mega Machine” is the internet and the associated information technologies.
    5) The theory that Hassan refers to is the negative effects caused by the disintegration of our social connectedness and the reality is the day to day experience of pursuing happiness in an existence that revolves around having more, spending more and getting more information.
    6) This is where people personify the technological ideology. We tend to make heroes out of the rebels or non-conformists who make good in our new technological society.
    7) Gore certainly promoted the dream. He didn’t start the internet all by himself, but he did play a role in its development.
    8) Change agent is someone that makes a difference in the way that things are and how others behave.
    9) Corporate capital usually carries the cost of interest or a share in the company or project. Government grants don’t have to be paid back, but you must jump through hoops to get and maintain these grants.
    10) Those people involved with developing the internet have also been instrumental in promoting or selling it to the consumers.
    11) The technology has become a requirement in our society. It is no longer just a something that can help you grow, but it is now needed in order to thrive.
    12) We must deal with the differing “personalities” of ourselves and the Net.
    13) To survive and thrive, businesses must computerize and have a Net presence.
    14) Ideas and processes have been commodified in the interest of profits rather than the betterment of our society and the internet community.
    15) The dream was sold as the answer to creating prosperity in society. It has helped to create global underemployment and a huge gap income gap between the CEOs and the workers.
    16) People can remain isolated while interacting on the Net. I think this is a continuation of the process of the depersonalization of society and the breakdown of social structures that are described in “Bowling Alone”. First we were part of a neighborhood, then we moved to the suburbs and enclosed ourselves in our cars. (drive-in movies and drive through dining). Now we never have to leave home. Shop and pay your bills online. Never expose yourself to anyone outside your home.
